M-65 Fishtail Parka – US Army
This iconic parka, nicknamed “fishtail” because of its distinctive back cut, was developed by the U.S. Army in the 1960s, at the height of the Cold War. Designed to protect soldiers from harsh weather conditions, it offered warmth, durability, and practicality thanks to its removable liner and long cut.
In the decades that followed, the M-65 Fishtail Parka went beyond its military role to enter popular culture: demobilized GIs brought it home, and it was soon embraced in civilian fashion, especially by youth movements of the 1970s and 1980s.
This jacket is therefore not just a military garment but a historical and cultural icon — a piece that embodies both U.S. Army innovation and the rebellious spirit of an entire generation.
